Gimme Metal Program Director Brian Turner delivers the week's top 5 office buzz-worthy tracks.

DUMA – Lionsblood

Nairobi, Keyna's metal underground has produced a bone-rattling duo known as Duma, and this is some intense/futuristic insanity. Industrial snake-shake rhythmic pound, abstract electronics, heavy drones, grind and hardcore influences inverted and loaded into a cannon. Aphex Twin, Africa, all-out assault epitomized in this exciting release on Nyege Nyege Tapes.

AUTUMN NOSTALGIE – Fallen Leaves

Thanks to our pal Anthony from Goateater Arts for hipping us to this project out of Hungary/Slovakia, chorus-flecked gentle post-rocky guitar pluckings breeze in with synths almost like you're hearing a lo-fi 4AD project, before a pillowy fuzz carries you off with E-bowed guitars and diminutively mixed tortured vocals.

SPIRIT ADRIFT – Harmony of the Spheres

Nate Garrett sounds great on this, the teaser to the band's 'Enlightened In Eternity' release coming October 16th. His vocals and guitar as strident as ever scraping the barnacles off the classic metal past with a healthy infusion of spirit, evoking doom vibes and other elements. Spirit Adrift has always been a band to school everyone looking for a quick tag, fusing subgenres of metal with elegant ease and projecting a great result.

HAVUKRUUNU – Ja Viimein On Yö

Masterful black metal chaos from Finland, faithful to the spirit without being over-retro or 90's-leaning. Near-joyful elements of Scandinavian folk and pagan hymns give this one a charged atmosphere, while being draped in hiss and sadness. Stefan on vocals/guitar/synth seems to mastermind this impressive unit who have been around since 2005, a standout from the usual black metal for sure.

INTOXICATED – Walled

Intoxicated's Florida roots most assuredly guarantee the thrash/death card is ably punched, but there's a lot more diversity than you'd think. Crushing riffage, HC roots at hands, bits of Motorhead, High on Fire, anything under the aggression umbrella pretty much. And these guys also backed up Andrew WK when he hit it big around the millenium, partyin' hard, when Donald Tardy from Obituary was approached by Andrew and dragged these fellas into the limelight. The new 'Walled' EP on Seeing Red is awesome, and the band does a guest DJ special on Gimme Metal Wednesday September 9th.
