Thanks to Anthony Bartkiewicz of Gimme's Grave Convulsions for putting the spotlight on this decrepit slab of Singapore death/black/thrash. From 1989! Blasphemy-style sickness with searing split-channel guitar rage ripping into your ears.
CARNAL FORGE Bound In Flames
From the Swedish melodic death/thrasher's latest Gun To Mouth Salvation out this week, their first since 2007. The groove is there but not enough to unseat the downtuned ferocity going on, lots of layers of brutality coated with new vocalist Tommie Wahlberg doing a good job at the throatshred foundation laid down by his predecessor Jonas Kjellgren.
CONAN – Volt Thrower
From their fuzzed out Existential Void Guardian LP out on Napalm this past Fall, these Brits' self-styled 'Caveman Battle Doom' throttles. Also dig the Ralph Bakshi-nod vidclip.
DEATHCHANT Pessimist
Learned about this stoner crew after I heard that Munehiro Narita of legendary 80s/90s Japanese psychedelic speed-shred group High Rise was coming to the West Coast in March for shows in his new combo Psychedelic Speed Freaks, which includes mainman for Deathchant TJ Lemieux. This is some sweet, Eastern-tinged proto-metal heft complete with oscillators, wah, and good thunder. Echo-laden vox issue forth from cauldron stew of psychedelic heaviness, tapes, weird ambience. Love to see this gang live.
