BLOODY SADISM BAND – Lucid Dream
Pooyan Ahmadi's one-man-holy-slam blitz from Tehran, Iran rips out of the speakers grinding and glitching your face off. Self-proclaimed pioneer of Depressive Brutal Death Metal, Ahmadi and BSB make a strong case for desert-born destruction from a head-scratching palatte of influences that comes out pretty damn great on the plate.
OVERTHRUST – Slay the Spectator
In an equally leftfield new oasis for metal as Iran, Botswana's scene takes the spotlight in a great new Svart label compilation called Brutal Africa. The comp came about in the wake of a documentary called Freedom In the Dark which showcased, among other acts this one, Overthrust. It's a pretty fascinating timeline of how metal found its way to arid Africa, tourists in the 70's shared sounds that paved the way for some light-rock bands (Nosey Road, Metal Orizon) and, well, eventually the harder gates opened. Overthrust definitely drink from the well of OG Death Metal, and have played Wacken in 2016.
BYZANTHIAN NECKBEARD – Coffin Bomb
Self-proclaimed 'Blackened Sludgy Doom from Guernsey", a perfect amalgamation of all bleak avenues of metal that rightfully eminate from a windswept island in the middle of the English Channel. Their new EP is name your own price at Bandcamp and worth checking out.
CREPUSCLE – In the Winds of Glory
Great Cali symphonic death courtesy of a new (October) Creator-Destructor label release. Crushing heaviness in sync with tasteful orchestration, indelible hooks, overall power and swagger. A Gimme Radio Guest DJ show coming up this winter.
BURIER – On Winged Leeches of Ash
Alien Australian gronk as heard on Anthony Bartkiewicz's Grave Convulsions program. Flurrying trash-fi raw blackened weirdness in limited edition runs of 10 and 30 cassettes, but safely interred on Bandcamp. True filth and majesty.
