Hey there, tech fiends. It's that time of the week again. Before we dive into today's focus, here's the usual weekly reminder that if you're looking for even more sick bands to hear, all prior editions of this series can be perused here.

I’ve got a really killer song called “Anew” to show you today from a band called Lamentations that we’re exclusively premiering. This one came my way thanks to Monotheist guitarist “Prophet” who pitched the idea to me since I helped Monotheist do the early full stream of Scourge here in this space. I’d never heard of Lamentations prior but I was interested pretty quickly after finding out the group’s line-up on the new song and into the future now contains three members of Monotheist. Guitarist Michael “Prophet” Moore, Drummer Chris Stropoli, and bassist Jose Figuroa. Lamentations are led by its founding member, vocalist and guitarist Danny Jacob as has been the case since the inception of the project.

Several members of Monotheist joining the band makes a lot more sense once you connect the dots that the band featured Danny Jacob on several of the songs on Scourge, and, Lamentations prior works featured Monotheist members in guest spots too.

I’ll admit I have not had a chance to check out the prior Lamentations full-length, 2016’s Echoes In The Wind, due to a lack of time on my end. However, based on the quality of “Anew” alone, this project is awesome and I am excited to hear what comes next. What you get on “Anew” is progressive death metal infused tech-death that's equal parts Extol, Fleshkiller, and Opeth sounding as well as hyperactive and ferocious in an Obscura type way. The song kicks off with some sublime acoustic guitar passages before going full-throttle for quite a while until slowing to a groover pace that segues into a gorgeous solo and then onto Cynic-esque ethereal prog-death replete with beautiful singing.

I asked the group if I could get some background information on “Anew” and was told that “This single tells the story of choosing the path of self-righteousness that unfortunately ends with a tragic realization of misguidedness. It’s just one part of the concept album which is set to be released in 2020.”

There’s a lot going on here so while it’s easily digestible the first spin around, I would suggest giving it a few spins to absorb everything that’s going on. Here’s to hoping the group’s next album drops in 2020 as planned, I really hope it does. You can follow the group over on the Lamentations Bandcamp Page and Lamentations Facebook Page.
