Hey there tech fiends, it's that time of the week again. Before we dive into today's focus, here's the usual weekly reminder that if you're looking for even more sick bands to hear, all prior editions of this series can be perused here.

I've got something really exciting for you today, and I'm aware I say that a lot as the passionate dork I am. Today we've got an early usual full stream of Disentomb – The Decaying Light ahead of its release this Friday through Unique Leader Records.

This Brisbane, Australia act needs no lengthy introduction, they've been active since 2009 and taken a solid leap forwards with each new release. For most people, they first heard the band when their 2nd album Misery dropped in 2014 and spread like wildfire for good reason. On Misery, Disentomb carved out their own path as one of the first to do a sort of dark and dissonant Ulcerate influenced take on technical brutal death metal heavy on slams and chaos.  The band’s continued mastery of stark brutality and warped hyper-active bursts is on full display from start to finish,  and The Decaying Light feels as bleak and all-consuming as its grim homage to Goya’s famous painting conveys. As an additional plus, the album features a lot of prominent and audible bass work that is rarer among bands going as berzerk and deranged as Disentomb do but it adds another dimension to the release I quite enjoy.

Like a lot of fans, the long five year wait for a follow up to Misery made this a highly anticipated release but the band had always had 4 years between both prior albums so I suppose it wasn't abnormal for them to take their time and get it right. The groups relentless touring has also certainly paid off and further grown their reputation as one of the modern brutal death metal sphere's best acts. Which is why it's so satisfying that The Decaying Light is so damn good, no small feat with the near-legendary status of Misery to live up to. The Decaying Light offers a nuanced yet noticeable refinement of their already well-established sound with twin increased emphasis on both atmosphere and technicality. It would be hard to call that a formula for playing it safe with how goddamn murderous and unhinged this album is and I think most fans of the group would agree with that take.

If you're looking for some really bleak, brutal, and heavy as hell tech-death, there are very few groups playing it at the elite level Disentomb have achieved yet again with The Decaying Light. So check out the full album stream of The Decaying Light below and see how you feel about it. If you’re into it, physical pre-orders can be placed through Indie Merch Store and digitally through the Unique Leader Bandcamp Page. You can follow the group over on the Disentomb Facebook Page.
