WAILIN' STORMS' Siren Call Of Doomed Rock Howls Over The "Carolina Moon"

If Bauhaus, Killing Joke, and Black Sabbath had a child, this would be it.

Wailin' Storms

There is a storm coming. The skies are bleeding dark gray and the sounds of thunder are slowly roaring in. However, this is a different kind of storm approaching us. Something tinged with doom, rock, goth, punk, and psychedelia. And it's the latest music video for "Carolina Moon" from Wailin' Storms.

Hailing out of Durham, NC, Wailin' Storms is a genre blender. Not truly belonging to anything in particular, but they have a clear ability to harness the elements around them. Doomy and gloomy, but with plenty of punk, psych, and rock present throughout. They are gearing up to release their latest album The Silver Snake Unfolds and this is their latest music video.

A quote from vocalist Justin Storms: "'Carolina Moon' is a song about sleep paralysis and sleeping walking. The main character falls asleep one night and starts to wander down the road in the middle of the night in a rural part of North Carolina. While walking they hear a voice singing in the woods and they start to walk towards the voice. When they get to the river they see a woman/siren singing in the middle of the river. The sleepwalker walks into the water in a trance, towards the siren and the two embrace. The river gets deeper and deeper and starts to freeze as things intensify. The siren drowns the person and they're later found frozen in the river, naked, like a mosquito in amber."

And as one will see, this video captures this idea in gorgeous detail. Not a straightforward video, but not so obtuse that it's impossible to understand what's going on. The video is comprised of stark imagery, that is enticing and inviting in its gloom. The whole video is in black and white and is stark start to finish. It's slow but also meditative. And pairs perfectly with the music. Which is heavy, very doomy, but not without plenty of rock elements. If Bauhaus, Killing Joke, and Black Sabbath had a child, this would be it.

The Silver Snake Unfolds will be dropping July 22. You can preorder the album from the mighty Gilead Media here.
