The New AZUSA (THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN, EXTOL) Song "Kill / Destroy" Is All Punky Energy

How is this band so good?

Azusa, the band featuring Extol guitarist Christer Espevoll and drummer David Husvik, ex-The Dillinger Escape Plan bassist Liam Wilson, and Sea + Air vocalist Eleni Zafiriadou, will release their new album Loop of Yesterdays on April 10.

The band is streaming their new song "Kill / Destroy" right now, which I'm pretty sure has cemented my belief that Loop of Yesterdays will be one of the best records of 2020. The writing is awesome,  the mix is great, and Zafiriadou remains probably one of the most underrated vocalists in metal.

"'Kill/Destroy' was the last song to be composed in the Loop of Yesterdays session," the band says. "We felt like the album needed some more 'kick in the teeth' punk/hardcore energy to round things out. The song was an obvious curtain-raiser, so we opened our live set with it on tour last summer as a sneak peek of the new album. Easily digestible yet appropriately unpredictable, 'Kill/Destroy' balances raw, thrash-inspired riffing with straight-forward lyrics about transgression and our inner demons being forced to awaken. Confrontational and blunt, 'Kill/Destroy' is peak Azusa."
