Sevendust guitarist Clint Lowery released his new solo album God Bless the Renegades earlier this year, but he's not quite done yet. Lowery has now unleashed a stripped-down version of Nine Inch Nails' classic "Hurt" and it is awesome. Lowery said in his description of the cover that he doesn't consider himself a singer, but I disagree. He probably should.
My cover of "Hurt" from NIN. Trent Reznor has been a hero of mine for many years. Musically no one has ever consistently inspired me. From the first song I heard until the most current piece he has released I’ve found tremendous inspiration and escape in his work. When we covered this years ago on the day Johnny Cash passed away it helped me find a voice for myself. It made me realize you don’t have to have a technical and trained voice to sing with heart.
I don’t consider myself a lead singer in fact, but I do believe what I sing. I believe the words and feel the pain, happiness and relief when I sing.
