ATALA Moves At A Glacial Pace On Their New Song "Won't Subside"

11 minutes. No survivors.

Atala hails from sunny California, but their music is anything but that. The band will release their new record The Bearer Of Light on May 21 and it's an angry, sorrowful trudge through the forests of doom with a promising glimmer of hope at the end.

We're excited to premiere the band's new song "Won't Subside" today, which will absolutely suffocate you under the weight of its endless riffs.

"Won't Subside" is a doom track. I love playing this song live because the intro and outro are basically jams we built as a band. The guts of the tracks are slow and heavy. Vocally it is one of my most heart felt tracks. The songs lyrics are based off of a freind of mines letter to me about his experience with PTSD. Before the letter had got to me he had killed himself. I basically wrote the song first person as if I was him. We love the song because living in a military town, we are exposed to massive amounts of suicide. We have all lost people to suicide. We wrote this song to raise awareness to the problem.

The sample on the intro is from a Howard Zinn speech. Howard Zinn was an anti war activist, professor, and veteran in his life time and a great inspiration to me… He wrote the book, A People’s History of the United States.

The Bearer Of Light and self-produced in just five days at Gatos Trail in Joshua Tree with engineer Jeff Thomas. Pre-order The Bearer Of Light here from the band and here from their label Salt Of The Earth Records, and catch Atala on tour with Sixes this July.
