Hey there tech-fiends, it's that time of the weekend yet again. I'm excited to show you an early stream of the new Brought By Pain today. But before we get into that, here's the usual reminder that all prior editions of this series can be perused here. Without further ado, let's get down to it.

A few years back in November of 2011, a bright new act from Montreal called Brought By Pain dropped their debut full-length called The Dreamer's Will. Like many who've heard it, it first came to my attention due to the band's line-up on The Dreamer's Will containing Beyond Creation (also in Unhuman) guitarist Kévin Chartré. Since its release, that album has slowly but surely gained the respect and recognition it deserves from the technical death metal scene. Now that 2016 draws to a close, the band is back with a thrilling three song EP called Crafted By Society and we've got an exclusive early stream of it below for you to check out.

In the five years since their full-length and now,  the band has undergone some line up shifts and on Crafted By Society they now contain an impressive sum of 3 current and or former members from Beyond Creation. Beyond Kévin Chartré, the band also features the (somewhat new) Beyond Creation bassist Hugo Doyon-Karout (also Equipoise, Conflux Collective, live for Bookakee) on 6-string fretless bass, and are also joined this time by former Beyond Creation drummer Guyot Begin-Benoit (will also drum on next years Equipoise) who killed it on the bands 2011 debut, The Aura. While that might make one think the direction here would sound even more like Beyond Creation, the opposite is true overall. As Brought By Pain have retained their own progressive death metal focused take on tech-death that is quite different than the way that Beyond Creation explore the intersection between progressive death metal and tech-death. Of course, there are some spots that bring them to mind, but overall Brought By Pain is its own experience.

Crafted By Society may only be 3 songs long, but it's a damn good experience that explores more interesting musical ideas in about 15 minutes than many of this years tech-death releases did across an entire albums length of material. Proving yet again that quality over quantity really does matter, or at least, it does to me. If you dig what you're hearing below, Crafted By Society will drop this Friday and can be pre-ordered through their Bandcamp page here. Be sure to follow the band over on the Brought By Pain Facebook page too.
