DANK SLAMS: Michelin Star Slammin With ANALEPSY

Slam connoisseurs are a fickle bunch – we go through slams like your grandma goes through depends. In fact, it's a never-ending battle to find that one gleaming, golden piece of corn in the bottom of a Mexican fiesta shithouse. Fortunate for you – and much to our olfactory displeasure – we at Dank Slams do the digging for all you ungrateful, elitist bastards!

So, while we douse ourselves in sulfuric acid in a foolhearted attempt to rid the stench, the least you could do is humor us by checking out a band that we all love – a band who effortlessly reinvent the modus operandi of slam, transforming that fecal-covered piece of corn into a warm, buttery, fluffy-yet-brutal bag of delicious slam drenched popcorn.

Whatever. No more poo or popcorn puns. Just check it out. Trust us.

ANALEPSY – DEHUMANIZATION BY SUPREMACY (2015)

Slam and food go hand in hand. As proof of that, the monotony and routine of any given day in the life of a slamophile goes a little something like this: slam > Denny's Grand Slam Breakfast > slam > Pizza Hut > slam > Taco Bell > slam > Burger King > slam > Dairy Queen > slam > Golden Girls > slam > self pleasure. So, yeah, food is the sustenance for slam, with a little bit of Dorothy, Blanche, Rose, and Sophia thrown in.

Anyway, for those hardcore Food Network lovers out there, you might have heard of a little place called The Polmard Eleveur Boucher butcher shop in Paris, France. This tiny, unassuming shop tucked away in the culinary heart of Europe is revolutionizing the process of aging beef, and the result is the world's most decadent, mouth-watering meat. They take simple, classic ingredients and processes and build upon it in new and exciting ways.

Much like this small team of culinary experts that has redefined the flavor, texture, and quality of the most expensive beef in the world, so too is Portugal's Analepsy reawakening the taste-buds and palette of the often dull and flavorless world of slam metal.

Analepsy's latest release, entitled Dehumanization By Supremacy, might very well be one of the best slam offerings ever recorded. Yeah, yeah, settle down, we are aware this has been out awhile. For those of you that aren't in the know, this EP is a collection of eight firmly executed tracks that seamlessly blends vibrant, intense, rich death metal riffing with the bludgeoning, pounding pit-riffs associated with the sub-genre of brutal slamming death metal. Every single note has been crafted in such a way as to deliver a top-notch and easy listening experience.

Now, don't get us wrong, this thing ain't 'easy-listening' in the same way as grandpa's 1950s record collection. No. It's the production that lends an easy, warm, swimming-in-the-center-of-a-gooey-hot-grilled-cheese-sandwich kinda listen – it's huge and delicious sounding! In fact, it's how every slam album should sound. Another big plus for this album comes by way of  drummer Tiago Correia, whose deft hands and feet are the all-encompassing, driving force behind this beast, perfectly complimenting the beefy, low-end and simplistic-yet-technically proficient riffing. Incredibly – for a slam album – every single note and nuance can be easily discerned among the controlled chaos.

To sum up, Analepsy has delivered the world's most expensive sounding slam album. With Corpse Stove as their head chef, Analepsy is well on its way to opening the very first slam-inspired three star Michelin restaurant.

Check out a couple of tracks below and then head on over to the Analepsy Bandcamp and show the guys some love…
