Yesterday, we told you about the scary situation at the Colectiv club in Bucharest, Romania where 31 fans died (originally we reported 27, but there are reportedly four more) during a fire after a pyrotechnics mishap during a free show spotlighting the band Goodbye To Gravity caused the roof of the venue to catch fire.
Today, the BBC reports that the three club owners, Costin Mincu, Alin George Anastasescu and Paul Gancea have been arrested and were questioned for several hours by officials regarding the blaze. According to the BBC report, the club was not sanctioned to have pyro inside:
The club is suspected of not being authorised to hold concerts or to stage pyrotechnic displays, Interior Ministry Secretary of State Raed Arafat is quoted as saying. Prosecutors are also inquiring into who should have insured the premises.
The trio are accused of allowing the club to be overcrowded and of not taking sufficient steps to ensure it had enough emergency exits.
It said that all three have apologised for their actions, with one confessing that he had put thousands of lives in danger and another conceding he had been "ignorant and irresponsible".
This is a very sad situation and likely an eye-opener for clubs in the area to get their venues up to code.
