"Why do you guys keep writing so many stories about Metallica?" we get asked constantly. (The answer by the way is because you read about it). Now, Facebook is suggesting it will soon allow you to dislike stories that aren't necessarily your favorite.
"People have asked about the 'dislike' button for many years, and probably hundreds of people have asked about this, and today is a special day because today is the day that I actually get to say we are working on it, and are very close to shipping a test of it," Zuckerberg said, according to a CNBC report.
It's unclear how the functionality will work, whether all you elitist metalheads can dislike Slipknot posts or if it would be something else.
"What they really want is the ability to express empathy. Not every moment is a good moment," Zuckerberg said.
So it looks like this might be available for posts about tragic news and not necessarily widespread. Facebook has avoided the "Dislike" button for years out of fear of reverting to a Reddit upvote/downvote scenario. We'll find out soon enough.
