THE WEEKLY INJECTION: New Releases From LINDEMANN, PRO-PAIN and More Out Today – 6/23

This edition includes everyone's favorite crazy German dude going solo, lots of prog, and more! To the metals…

Abyssal – Antikatastaseis 51+mmwikBbL

Genre: Blackened doom
Origin: United Kingdom
Label: Profound Lore

This is a massive achievement of an album. This band managed to put a spin on the tired atmospheric black metal genre by infusing elements of melodic death metal, technicality and doom. Very interesting record.

District 97 – In Vaults 61aaAYg-HVL

Genre: Progressive
Origin: Chicago, Illinois
Label: Lasers Edge

A really, really good prog record. They're like if you mixed Spock's Beard or Yes with an Anneke van Giersbergen project. Less metal than progressive, but pretty fantastic. They have two other records that I'm going to dip back and find also. Huzzah.

Kingcrow – Eidos 51vHC+fF-1L

Genre: Progressive metal
Origin: Rome, Italy
Label: Sensory

More prog? Why not? Heavier than our last band, certainly, but a different angle completely. Somewhere between Leprous and Anubis Gate. Not quite "power prog," but there is certainly epicness to be had.

Lindemann – Skills In Pills 51tVDjlNSrL

Genre: Industrial/goth
Origin: Leipzig, Germany
Label: Warner Brothers

Buy now on Amazon.com

Till Lindemann doesn't stray too far from what he's known for. This is basically your typical driving, industrial-ish Rammstein record that is a bit weirder somehow.

Pro-Pain – Voice of Rebellion 51u4VLyGIQL

Genre: Hardcore/Groove
Origin: New York City, New York
Label: SPV

I feel like is could copy and paste what I said about their album that dropped last year. In fact lets do that. "Good ol' east coast fight metal. The kind you get in a pit and skip to. These guys are a long running band, so I suppose I respect their journey, but they sound like the band Hatebreed based themselves on before perfecting (strong word) their sound." Yup. Still works. Not too much different form the last record, but you'll still wanna skip to it.

Virgin Steele – Noctures of Hellfire & Damnation61iWE2CxVcL

Genre: Heavy metal
Origin: Long Island, New York
Label: SPV

Buy now on Amazon.com

If Stan's Dad on South Park had a band, I imagine that it would sound like Virgin Steele. This band has been around for almost thirty-five years and sound like a present day power metal band. I respect that a lot. Found myself really into the song form the video below actually.
