I've become a convert to Uber. The taxi service works with you installing an app on your phone and then launching it up and requesting a car through your phone. You enter your payment info once into your phone and then it's stored, making trips super easy. You get in the car, they already know where you are going because you dialed it into the app and then when you arrive, you can just get up and leave. All the payment is done for you.
I avoided using it until I realized they lowered their prices to be cheaper than a cab, and offer better service.
Today, they announced the next great feature that is sure to really annoy their drivers. Premium users of the Spotify music streaming service can pre-select what music will play in the car when it arrives during the reservation process. The press release elaborates:
"When your ride arrives, your tunes will be playing on the speakers. You can also change what's playing during your journey right through the Spotify and Uber mobile apps. It's all there – your own music and playlists and well as specially curated Uber playlists."
That means you can force your cab driver to jam the latest Cannibal Corpse offering (ideally at full volume) or perhaps you can really punish them by making them listen to Attila.
The service is rolling out in 10 cities initially: London, Los Angeles, Mexico City, Nashville, New York, San Francisco, Singapore, Stockholm, Sydney and Toronto.
If this sounds appealing to you, Uber is offering you a free ride (up to $30) by signing up at this link. Here's what it looks like in the app:
