Rumor: CLIFF WILLIAMS Won't Play Bass For AC/DC On Their Upcoming Tour

The tour dates haven't been announced yet either, so.

Cliff Williams

Bassist Cliff Williams originally retired from AC/DC in 2016. At the time, Williams released a video statement that said in part "It's time for me to step out, that’s all." He later added: "I’m ready to get off the road and do what I do in between tours."

Williams would ultimately return for the 2020 record Power Up, as well as the band's first show since 2016 at Power Trip 2023. But it seems that might be all we're getting out of Williams. According to AC/DC superfan, journalist, and comedian Dean Delray, Williams will not be joining his AC/DC bandmates for their upcoming tour dates (currently unannounced).

"Ok last night I heard from a very reliable source that AC/DC will be touring with a new Bass Player this year," wrote Delray. "I'm not gonna say who it is I'll let AC/DC make that announcement but I will say this, 3 year ago I had Cliff Williams on my podcast and he straight up said he would not be touring again and I was surprised that the fans didn't seem to pick up on that."

"I just want take this time to thank Cliff for absolutely rocking us on the Bass for over 40 years. An absolute killer of Groove. I love you brother."

Cliff Williams has played bass for AC/DC since 1977 and hasn't sat out much with the group. So who knows who will replace him, if anyone – maybe the rumor isn't true. I guess we'll find out soon enough. It's also worth noting that AC/DC's Power Trip show featured drummer Matt Haug in place of Phil Rudd, though Rudd has since commented that he plans to return to the band.
