I released a press release late last night to promote the new In This Moment single "Whore" with the included photo attachment described as "the new photo of Maria posing nude around her cause empowering women. "
Apparently, Brink is sick of being called a whore. Or perhaps sick of people assuming being a whore is a bad thing? In the press release she is quoted as saying:
“The message behind this song is taking back control. It is about taking the power from a disgusting and degrading word and turning it back around on the accuser. It's about self empowerment, love, and liberation.”
Are you sure, Maria? Because to me this seems like a simple way to use your body to create interest in your band and your new single. Maria continues on why she decided to pose nude for the photo above:
“I decided to pose nude for the visual art for ‘Whore’ to evoke a raw vulnerable emotion. The word WHORE written down my back, and the dunce cap symbolize me placing myself on the stake for those who are suffering and I can only hope to encourage at least one person to find the self worth and love they deserve to transcend out of a painful situation into a beautiful one. It is about finding our power and taking a stand. We are resilient beings and need to realize our incredible strengths. I will not bow down to others perceptions of me; I will only rise in the name of art, love and music. “
Maybe the photo will inspire dozens of In This Moment fans to pose naked on their Instagram pages to help take back the word "whore."
In case you are wondering, here is the song:

The hook of the song includes the phrase "You love me for everything you hate me for." Maria, I do love you for posing nude and creating a multitude of hits for my site, but to mask this as feminism and not what it is (using your body to sell your band) is untruthful. Then again, maybe that in and of itself is what makes this very feminist. Maria is proud of her body, and she is using her assets to promote her music. Wouldn't be the first time this happened.
I realize the irony that I, a man, am criticizing a woman about her feminist action, so I ask the Metal Injection ladies to chime in with your thoughts on Maria's latest publicity stunt.
