This week's new heavy metal releases include some wild death metal, some big riffs, and more! To the metals…

Atreyu – The Moment You Find Your Flame

THE WEEKLY INJECTION: New Releases From SPIRIT ADRIFT, HORRENDOUS & More Out Today 8/18

Genre: Metalcore/hard rock
Origin: Yorba Linda, California
Label: Spinefarm

Buy now from Spineform

On their second EP of the year, Atreyu are keeping the anthemic melodic metal jams going. The four tracks are full of earworm moments and shredding guitars. Pretty much what you'd expect (and hope for as a fan) at this point in their career.

Horrendous – Ontological Mysterium

THE WEEKLY INJECTION: New Releases From SPIRIT ADRIFT, HORRENDOUS & More Out Today 8/18

Genre: Death/heavy metal
Origin: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Label: Season Of Mist

Buy now on Bandcamp

If you like your death metal with the melodies of an Iron Maiden record, then Ontological Mysterium should be right up your alley. This record mixes a lot of metal into one blender and hits you with a unique combination that's success is hard to deny. Jeff's full review is here.

Nott – Hiraeth

THE WEEKLY INJECTION: New Releases From SPIRIT ADRIFT, HORRENDOUS & More Out Today 8/18

Genre: Death metal/doom
Origin: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Label: Silent Pendulum Records

Buy now on Bandcamp

After a couple melodic records, let's diverge from that…like, a lot. Hiraeth is dark and heavy. When it's not pummeling you with death metal blasting, it crushes with lumbering doom. The shifts between these two speeds can be wonderfully jarring.

Ringworm – Seeing Through Fire

THE WEEKLY INJECTION: New Releases From SPIRIT ADRIFT, HORRENDOUS & More Out Today 8/18

Genre: Hardcore/thrash
Origin: Cleveland, Ohio
Label: Nuclear Blast

Buy now on Bandcamp

Seeing Through Fire is a brief, pit-inducing, rage filled record. Hardcore breakdowns breakup the thrash speed a bit, but the energy rarely dips. Stretch before putting this one on since it'll give your neck a hell of a workout.

Skálmöld- Ýdalir

THE WEEKLY INJECTION: New Releases From SPIRIT ADRIFT, HORRENDOUS & More Out Today 8/18

Genre: Folk metal
Origin: Reykjavík, Iceland
Label: Napalm

Buy now on Bandcamp

Are you prepping for battle? Yes? Weird, but good news! Skálmöld have your new battle soundtrack. No members wearing pelts or horns on this one, but you're still getting all the powerful folk metal harmonies. I really feel like I could conquer something with this one in my earbuds.

Spirit Adrift – Ghost At The Gallows

THE WEEKLY INJECTION: New Releases From SPIRIT ADRIFT, HORRENDOUS & More Out Today 8/18

Genre: Heavy metal/doom
Origin: Mesa, Arizona
Label: Century Media

Buy now on Bandcamp

Now to take us home we're going to riff city on the new Spirit Adrift. Guitarmonies, headbanging grooves, and just top-notch songwriting are all here. Nate Garrett and his crew really know how to do the kinda-doom, heavy metal thing. This is catchy and cool as hell. Jordan's review is here.
