FATES WARNING Is Done Releasing New Music

They're not breaking up, though.

Metal Blade Records

After 13 albums between 1984 and 2020, Fates Warning is done releasing new music.

In an interview with Prog Magazine (via Metal Hammer), Fates Warning vocalist Ray Alder said he released his new solo album II because if "Fates Warning is no longer going to release material then I need an outlet. I don't want to join another band, so a solo career seems the most logical thing to do."

When asked what that means, Alder responded "Jim [Matheos, guitarist] says he doesn't want to write any more new music for the band. That could change, I don't know, you'd have to talk to him. It's not to say there won't be any more live shows. The band didn't break up. It's just that there won't be any more new music. And I need an outlet; music has been my life for over thirty years."

A hiatus in new Fates Warning followed by new material wouldn't be too surprising, though. Fates Warning released 10 of their albums between 1984 and 2004, and then took a nine year break between FWX and Darkness In A Different Light in 2013. This is also me personally trying to justify Fates Warning "being done" releasing new music, and secretly hoping there's more. Those three albums they did between 2014 and 2020 were some of their best work yet!

Though maybe if Fates Warning really is done making new music, drummer Bobby Jarzombek can go back to doing stuff with Spastic Ink? Please?
