SYSTEM OF A DOWN Frontman Says No New Music Discussed; Drummer Says Hopeful For New Album In 2014

I was so bummed that I had to miss the local System Of A Down/Deftones shows over the weekend due to other plans. Everybody who went to the shows had glowing reviews of both bands, and of course, the mighty System was out doing press. Everybody who's interviewing them would obviously be curious about any possible new material from the band since it's been seven years since they've put out a record. The weird thing is the band is sending some mixed signals.

Frontman Serj Tankian was interviewed by Loudwire last week and when asked about new material he said:

"It's a good question and the answer is the same — we haven't made plans of recording the new record as of yet," he said. "When we do, everyone will know. We haven't really discussed another record as of now with any of the guys, really. It's something that, when it's the right time, we'll do it. Right now I'm busy with my own stuff and that's gonna take me a bit, but when it's the right time, everyone will know. I don't even want to say there's [a new System Of A Down album] coming because we haven't really talked about it. I just assume when it's the right time, it'll materialize, like everything else in the universe."

In an even newer interview, drummer John Dolmayan is a bit more optimistic saying:

While there are no plans for new music at the moment, Dolmayan remains hopeful for the future. “We don’t know what will happen next,” he says, “but I’d like to be in the studio at this time next year … possibly making an album by 2014.”

This could clearly be a case of certain members of the band more interested in doing this than others. For Dolyman, I'm sure he has far more time on his hands than Tankian who is busy launching a solo career. Either way, I'd love to hear what System Of A Down have to offer in today's environment.
