Corey Taylor is looking to add "filmmaker" to his extensive resume this year. According to Taylor in an interview with Frightmare HQ, he's in talks with directors and is set to begin shooting his debut film Zombie Versus Ninja this year.
"One of the things that Iāve always wanted to do is create a movie ā write a movie and then see it from soup to nuts; from pre-pro to walking the red carpet. Thatās been one of my biggest dreams. And Iāve had the opportunity to really be put in touch with some great producers. And Iām talking to potential directors right now, actually. It is going to shoot this year."
Taylor added that he's not interested in trying to direct the film himself since he has no idea what he's doing. He later said he's aiming for his career as a filmmaker to be known for its cult classics, and not for any Oscar nominations.
āItās not that Iām not interested; itās that I know thatās not my forte. Iām honest enough with myself to realize that if I had wanted to be a director, I would have started learning a long time ago. And I know a lot of people with the kind of ego that they would step in and go, āWell, itās mine. Blah blah blah.ā Iām not that guy. I want it to be good. I want [people] to enjoy what Iām making, because I wanna enjoy it too. And sometimes itās the collaboration that creates something amazing.
"You have to be flexible enough to realize, like, āI donāt have the chops to do this.ā However, that doesnāt mean thereās somebody out there that does. So, for me, as the writer and the producer, now I can find the right person to bring it to fruition and walk with them every step of the way as a collab. Let them do their thing, but also know that, in my mind, thereās this idea of what I want it to be. And itās a gonzo horror comedy ā itās the kind of fucking movie that Iāve always loved, and itās the kind of movie that Iāve always wanted to make. And if it goes off, man, itās the beginning of something rad.ā
"I donāt wanna make Oscar winners. I wanna make fun, crazy cult classics. Thatās all I care about.ā
Corey Taylor will embark on a COVID-safe tour this spring, though a lot of the dates are already sold out.
