Congratulations are in order for Deftones, who got great news about chart positions for their ninth studio album, Ohms, which debuted at Number 5 on the Billboard 200.
The album moved 49,000 equivalent album units, with 43,000 coming from pure sales. That means the remainder of the equivalent album units were the result of nearly 8 million on-demand streams on music services.
In December of 2014, Billboard changed the methodology of counting how many units are sold to not only include full album sales, but also streams and individual song downloads. Ten track sales or 1,500 song streams are the equivalent of one album sold.
Ohms also topped the vinyl charts, pushing 14,000 copies in the reinvigorated medium.
Overall, the album sold less than 2016's Gore, which came in at number two on the charts for it's debut, and sold 71,000 copies. Koi No Yokan (2012) debited at number 11 with 65,000 albums sold. Diamond Eyes in 2010, sold 62,000 first week debuting at number six.
The Deftones camp should be happy with these numbers, especially in today's economy. Read our review of Ohms here.
