DISTURBED's David Draiman Could Have Saved The Music Industry

You may have heard by now that Disturbed frontman has let the cat out of the bag that the band is going on an indefinite hiatus after they complete their current touring commitments. But it doesn't end there. Draiman has been on a rampage as of late, speaking his mind freely on Twitter, WHERE HE ONLY TYPES IN CAPS (maybe his phone is broken?). When pressed for how he would fix the broken music industry, this was Draiman's suggestion:

“THAT’S A LONG STORY. MY OPINION IS THAT THE MUSIC INDUSTRY MISSED THE BOAT. I DON’T BLAME THE FANS OR THE PUBLIC FOR WANTING A QUICK AND EASY WAY TO GET THEIR MUSIC. HAD THE RECORD LABELS NEGOTIATED WITH THE ISP’S 10-15 YEARS AGO TO BUILD IN A FILE SHARING FEE TO THE STANDARD ISP MONTHLY SERVICE CHARGE, SAY AN ADDITIONAL 5 DOLLARS A MONTH FOR UNLIMITED FILE SHARING, THAT OFFERED INCENTIVES AND SPECIAL TRACKS/ RELEASES, WOULDN’T YOU HAVE DONE IT? OVER 70 MILLION PEOPLE SUBSCRIBE TO ISP’S. 70 MILLION x 5 DOLLARS A MONTH IS A WHOLE LOT OF REVENUE THAT EVERYONE HAS BEEN MISSING OUT ON. FILE SHARING WOULD HAVE BEEN W/O CONSEQUENCE AND AT MINUSCULE COST. EVERYONE WOULD HAVE WON. NOW WERE ALL PLAYING CATCH UP. TOO LITTLE, TOO LATE”

Wow, why haven't the ISPs ever seen it from your point of view David? Why not charge 5 dollars more and give that money to the record industry. One problem, how would they know what people downloaded? How do the labels split that revenue? How do the bands get paid. There would be no way to do this without tracking people's every moves. So everybody should give up their privacy? Great idea, David.

See the thing is, there is something out there that does what Draiman is suggesting, in a much more organized fashion and it's called Spotify. I've been using the service for a few weeks now, and in no-time did I actually subscribed to the service. And, anytime you stream track, that artist gets paid.

If only Draiman had heard of Spotify, maybe Disturbed wouldn't have broken up. On second thought, NOBODY TELL DRAIMAN ABOUT SPOTIFY!
