Anthony Bourdain was not just a chef, he was an influencer – of food, and of thought. Bourdain took his own life earlier today, Friday June 8th. According to CNN, Bourdain's friend and fellow chef Eric Ripert found Bourdain unresponsive in his hotel room.
Bourdain was in France taping another episode of his CNN show, Parts Unknown. Bourdain had a huge affect not only on lovers of food, but everybody, with his quick wit, his penchant for speaking up on social justice and his constant defense of the restaurant workers in the back. Metalheads and rock musicians were very much touched by his work, and the tributes have been pouring in.
Utterly shocked by news of @Bourdain's passing. We've lost an honest broker of life, cuisine, culture and truth. I was honored to spend time with him in Armenia for @PartsUnknownCNN. Our love and condolences go out to his family & all those he touched with his beautiful spirit. pic.twitter.com/yOrgyBuP6x

In utter shock right now ? I’ve been a fan of all things @Bourdain since #KitchenConfidential. He not only elevated the conversation on food, books, music, film etc but also social justice. The way I write (& of course, eat) will be forever impacted by him. #ripanthonybourdain pic.twitter.com/byv3JJdp2A

Learn from Anthony Bourdain, watch his show, read his words, they have meaning and can benefit you. Travel, try something new, talk to someone from a different walk of life, listen to people, consider what they’re going through & help them if you can but stay outta Olive Garden!

Today, I found out the world has lost one of my heroes. @Bourdain inspired me to discover the world through food; to delight in the things found easily around the planet amongst our travels. I even heard about a thing called Brazilian Jiu Jitsu thanks… https://t.co/9w9GXr8n81 pic.twitter.com/BgzhIYafy8

Kitchen Confidential was the greatest book about a chef’s life at the time-,it spawned the whole “foodie” phenomenon as well as the modern era of Kitchen Lit. Anthony Bourdain was the Real Deal. Very upsetting to hear of his apparent suicide death.
Bad week.
