The Monday Grind EP Premiere: TERMINAL NATION And NECKBEARD DEATHCAMP One Party System

Posted by on February 18, 2019 at 12:32 pm

It's Monday and Mondays suck, so let's grind it out with a premiere from Terminal Nation and Neckbeard Deathcamp entited One Party System.

Yeah, I heard some of you like political stuff. So when asked by Terminal Nation to premiere their new split with Neckbeard Deathcamp, of course I jumped at this one. One Party System is a nice little nugget of anti-xenophobic sentiments, criticisms on gun violence, blind patriotism and incels. So, you know, things/criticisms nazis hate. Especially including the incels part. Which seems to be a pretty common problem amongst a group of people that back a party that lost a major world war. Love is a black pill battlefield.

Anyway, if you've read this column before, you should be familiar with Terminal Nation. The Arkansas five-piece is a burning force of crushing powerviolence. Their 2017 EP Absolute Control was a favorite of mine that year. However, the way they open this EP up with "Church of the Gun" is just crushing. An overlay of news reports of gun violence, fanatical gun speak, and some wishes for thoughts and prayers build and build until the song boils over. This song is relentlessly heavy and pissed. As it should be with its lyrical content.

"ICE Watch" is Terminal Nation's second offering. Yeah, you already know what this is about by title alone. Musically, this is a straight hardcore/punk song. Pure, pulsing anger laces the track as it pummels forward. The breakdown is pure mosh and stage diving glory. It's a venomous song. But you know, the common retort is that Obama deported the most immigrants of any president. As though that makes the practices of ICE okay. I mean, that's why the ACLU filed a class action lawsuit against ICE. Because they're constitutionally moral. Obviously. What's that, the ACLU is a bunch of cucked pussies? Hmm…oh yeah, they defended that whipping boy Milo. Oh, and this song is awesome.

Some of you might remember Neckbeard Deathcamp. Yeah, I recall they made the really reeled in the snowflakes when we last covered them. Though I just wrote that off as a bad case of dandruff. Anyway, the first offering from the Camp is "Freeze Peach", a track about the aforementioned blind patriotism. And whether you like it or not, it is black metal. Black metal with some of the most abyssal vocals. The track, despite only clocking in under three-minutes, starts out with a Ghandi quote and becomes a furious burner. However, the song does slow and linger in bleakness halfway through. The song is lyrically biting, especially as it reads: "But you bootlicking shit suckers / Would sell yourselves into slavery … If It meant / 'Owning the libs one final time.'"

The final track, "Thotcrime" is the incels song. It's a track that's furious and burning through and through. Like the blackest fire, Neckbeard Deathcamp are on full blast here. The lyrics are…humourous in a bleak way. Reading like a brief logged conversation via a social media messenger. Doesn't matter which, pick one. It's a conversation that goes from greetings to stalker, to threats of violence quickly. It's an unfortunately realistic, one-sided conversation with a socially awkward person. The kind that happens everyday to someone out there.

Overall, this EP is a crusher. Powerviolence, hardcore/punk, black metal and social commentary. It's exactly the kind of thing you'd expect from both of these bands. And both of them have brought some killer tracks to the table. If you don't like the political skew of things, I don't know what to tell you except that art is inherently political. If you like the aforementioned genres, you'll find something to love here. Get grinding on this one.

One Party System is out on the mighty To Live A Lie Records on 2/22. You can preorder here.
