Tech-Death Tuesday: PROMETHEAN Unleash Symphonic Blackened Horror on “The Nameless Colour”

Hey there tech fiends, it's that time of the week again. Before we dive into today's focus, here's the usual reminder that if you're looking for more sick music, all prior editions of this series can be perused here.

With groups like Inferi and Mordant Rapture re-invigorating my interest in symphonic heavy tech-death this year as of late, it seemed like a good time to bring you an early premiere from Promethean seeing as they're another like-minded act. We’re premiering a new single here for Paris, France natives Promethean entitled ”The Nameless Colour” which will appear on the bands upcoming full-length in 2019.

The song is an intense experience of orchestral grandiosity wrapped in layers of frenetic riffing and crushing deathly blows, frequently enamored with skull destroying heaviness, with finely interwoven blackened shadows further the groups striving to create their own sound. A lot of songs in the genre go on for too long, but the six minutes length on"The Nameless Colour" is a quality experience all the way to its haunting end.

The complexity of the music on "The Nameless Colour" is clearly an evolution for Promethean and hopefully a portent of great things to come for their album out next year. I asked the group if they could give me some information about the song and the new album which guitarist Gaëtan Marquer replied with the following information:

"The Nameless Colour" is a prelude to our debut full-length album expected towards early 2019. The yet unnamed opus will contain roughly one hour of orchestra-oriented blackened death metal, nourished from diverse influences from the technical and progressive areas of the genre.

Each song will develop its own specific atmosphere and story, drawn from the stately mythology fantasized by American author H.P. Lovecraft – exploring some of its most renowned tales, like "The Colour Out of Space" (1927) with this single or some of his lesser-known but equally enticing works.

We feel like it'll be the logical follow-up to "Aloades" (2017) as well as a huge step up on all fronts: the songwriting, execution, and production are all much more mature and refined, with a better balance between the metal and orchestral elements.”

So hit play on “The Nameless Colour” and see how you feel about it.  You can follow them on the Promethean Facebook Page. You can also check out the group’s prior 2017 effort Aloades through the Promethean Bandcamp Page as well.
