Christian Deathcore Band Finds Science, Rejects Christianity

The Order Of Elijah discovered Richard Dawkins, and the rest is history.

The Order Of Elijah discovered Richard Dawkins, and the rest is history.

The Order Of Elijah is a deathcore band from Joplin, Missouri, who, up until about a week ago, was a Christian metal band. To the group's credit, though not in the same genre, metal has had fantastic Christian metal groups in the past (Extol comes to mind), so we'll leave the whole "can Jesus metal rule?" debate out of this. I'm sure you're also noticing that I keep referring to the band's belief in God in the past tense… which is accurate.

You see, on May 21, the band's vocalist Shannon Low straight up renounced his faith in God with an extremely lengthy post. In short, Low went through a lot of shit where religion couldn't help him in the way he needed it to, and that's when he found Richard Dawkins' 2006 book The God Delusion.

It's an interesting flip of opinion on Low's part, given this isn't just the guy woke up one day and decided there wasn't a God. Dude went through the trials and tribulations of life and just came upon the conclusion that God couldn't hack it for him anymore.

The band's Facebook page and social presence has now taken an extremely sharp left turn and has gone full on Atheist… I mean 0 to fuckin' 60 real quick.

Patheos gives an interesting detailing of Low's drop off from faith, as he slowly falls off from being a believer to kind of grappling with what could be the truth behind his faith.

This isn't an anti-Christian post either, so don't take it as that. Christian turned Atheist, Atheist turned Jewish, whatever – if it makes you happy then go for it.
