Konami Announces Rock Revolution Video Game. Ugh.

Posted by Shoiker on June 17th, 2008

The latest GameInformer magazine has a one page spread on Konami's new music-based instrument video game entitled Rock Revoluton. Yet another game, by another developer, trying to cash in on the Guitar Hero/Rock Band dynasty. Albeit, Konami was the first with GuitarFreaks, Bemani, DrumMania and the Dance Dance Revolution series. However, there are some minor differences with this game and the GH/RB conglomerate. Here are the most essential parts of the article:

Rock Revolution features 40 cover songs, and apart from playing through all the songs, its three instrument career mode (drum, bass, and guitar) contains challenges such as having to avoid poison notes while playing or making your way through a song without the benefit of seeing any of the falling notes. Although the game doesn't use master tracks, it is turning this to its advantage by letting you perform fills at any time that will sound out along with the song in real-time. It also features a Jam Mode where you head into the studio and create your own music.

Konami isn't talking about instrument controllers for the game beyond a drum set, but the recent demo we saw was being played with a Guitar Hero Les Paul controller. The company says downloadable content will be available, and Rock Revolution's online mode will feature band vs. band play, co-op, and multi-instrument face-offs.

After the jump, we have the track listing (including PANTERA, METALLICA and SYSTEM OF A DOWN), trailer and first look at the whacky drum controller…

  • "Walk" by Pantera
  • "Am I Evil?" by Metallica
  • "Blitzkreig Bop" by The Ramones
  • "Chop Suey" by System of a Down
  • "Dance Dance" by Fall Out Boy
  • "Dr. Feelgood" by Motley Crue
  • "Last Resort" by Papa Roach
  • "No One Like You" by Scorpions
  • "Round and Round" by Ratt
  • "Sk8er Boi" by Avril Lavigne
  • "Somebody Told Me" by The Killers
  • "Spoonman" by Soundgarden
  • "We're Not Gonna Take It" by Twisted Sister
  • "Youth Gone Wild" by Skid Row

Here is a trailer that we found on Youtube:

Well, there you have it. If you're still into this whole fad, then look for the release on Xbox 360, Playstation 3, Wii, and the DS sometime this Fall. But wait, if you're still not sold. Multiplayer Blog have the first shot of the drum kit (which looks like it would require 3 hands)…

all this is starting to get old really fast.. lol

  2. Vince says:

that drum controller looks like it sucks… and i agree with the above comment. enough games have come out with the band aspect, and then they keep making sequels to the games as new games arise. too many copies.

  3. Furik says:

Indeed it's getting old. I'm tired of these musical instrument games. It was fun when I played a demo of Guitar Hero I and played the Ramones at Best Buy but that's it. I would rather spend my money on real instruments and start a real band.

well what i dont understand is why you negative tards put your 2 cents on here like anyone cares what you think, video games aren't made for grown ups, they are made for kids and not only that but someone worked real hard on this game and design and you go tell him it sux, well how would you like it if your so called "band" put out a record, actually better yet, send me a copy of your band so i can tell you that you guys suck. Point being, there is no room for negative nancys, dont like, dont play it but dont bore us with your whining.
