Gimme Metal's Top Tracks of the Week

The Top Metal Tracks Of The Week You Should Listen To According To Gimme Radio

Every Thursday, Gimme Radio Program Director, Brian Turner, delivers the top 5 jaw-dropping tracks on Gimme Radio.

Culled from the week’s past shows, these tracks have the Gimme Radio DJs' seal of approval, have the listeners demanding more and the Gimme office buzzing.

Primitive Weapons – "Normalcy Bias"

The concept of chaos not entering one's life until a sudden, jarring wake-up call is what this is all about. NYC's excellent purveyors of post-hardcore are a much needed shake-up on multiple levels. The mutating sound of Heavy New York is getting sonically thicker by the month and PW's are a necessary contribution to all the schizo cross-pollinization going on there.

Ruach Raah – "Funeral Fumes"

Sophomore LP blackened filth from Portugal which lately seems to be pulling no punches in terms of unpolished primitivism. A badass intro riff stops on a dime and launches into a lo-fi black tunnel of hopelessness and suitably fucked vocalese. The album also sports a great spokenword dialogue involving a gravedigger.

No One Gets Out Alive – "My Rifle, My Banjo and Me"

This one maybe constitutes the defining WTF-moment in the Gimme HQ this week courtesy of Battle Flutes and Sideways Skull's program. Genuine stench-laden hoedown grindcore from some twisted singular mind, a blood-soaked banjo and spitoon full of entrails on some guarded-by-a-German goon dustbowl porch for all of us to enjoy.

Behemoth – "Bartzabel"

A furious return from Poland's finest. Nergal's gargling-with-tacks vox stands in pronounced contrast against the almost lush and liturgical elements herein on this track. It still strikes hot though with thick-n-heavy guitars, the expected pummel only Behemoth conjures up. Gimme's all about this album this month.

Writing On the Wall – "Lucifer Corpus"

A 1969 endorsed nugget floating around, John Peel-patronized Scottish greatness complete with swirling doomy organ, maniacal vocals and occult vibes that surely informed more Downer Rock UK types for the formative years to come. An entire final verse telling everyone over and over "we're all gonna die" was definitely a contrast to contemporaries Herman's Hermits.
