Back in my day, Aquaman used to be a bit of a punchline of a superhero, but now, Hollywood has rebooted the fledgling Justice Leaguer as a badass action hero, being portrayed by Jason Momoa. Momoa is an active metalhead, showing up at Metallica shows and giving props to Pantera in previous interviews.

In a new interview with Metal Hammer, Momoa revealed that he channeled the energy of Tool's "Ticks and Leeches" while portraying the underwater superhero:

"Aquaman's pretty metal. I know no-one thinks that, but Aquaman's metal," Jason tells Metal Hammer. "I kind of build my characters off of metal songs. Conan (The Barbarian) was really heavy Pantera, I'd say Aquaman was probably mostly built out of Tool and (Metallica album) Kill 'Em All. Ticks And Leeches, if I want to get specific. There's a lot of Sabbath in there too."

I guess if you think about it, Aquaman, in concept, is pretty metal. Aquaman opens in the U.S. on December 21st (UK on Dec. 12th). Get tickets here.
