The people at Harmonix, the developers of the carpel tunnel inducing Rock Band video game, have announced that the sequel to last year's revolutionary all-band game will be seeing a September release on XBOX 360 (and shortly thereafter on PS3) and will feature all new peripherals, new game play modes…improvements on virtually every aspect of gameplay, as well as what they are calling "easily the best setlist I've ever seen in a music game" which is akin to bands saying this is "the heaviest record we've ever put out."
During the interview with IGN was tight-lipped on revealing too many new details, saying everything will come out in the next few weeks but he did make some promises. All the DLC (Downloadable content) for the current iteration will be playable on the sequel, more online gameplay, strongly hinting at user-generated music capabilities similar to what Guitar Hero just announced. Also, it was strongly hinted at that there would be wireless peripherals as well as more accessories like distortion pedals and other little gizmos.
The full interview can be read here where he discusses the topics I mentioned as well as more hints of info about the new game. As always, as soon as something new is announced we will post it here for you!

SLIPKNOT's Mick Thomson, affectionately known to "maggots" worldwide as Seven has posted the band's new single, "Psychosocial" on his Myspace page. The song is definitely a bit more accessible to mainstream tastes than the first new 'knot track to hit the intertubes, but its still a good tune. We would post the song here, but the last time we tried that, their management wasn't too happy. So head over to Mick's Myspace before his own management sends him a cease and desist! Oh and if you still haven't heard "All Hope Is Gone", he is streaming that on his page as well. What a sweet guy!

Headbangers Blog has posted a new audio podcast with BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME lead guitarist, and all around awesome dude, Paul Waggoner. Fresh off the Progressive Nation tour package along with Opeth, Dream Theater and 3, HBB catches up with Paul during BTBAM's European tour with Meshuggah and Dillinger Escape Plan. Paul discusses "the band’s efforts to remain original, the difference between experimentation and self-indulgence, the upcoming DVD and the next studio record" which Paul hints will be a full-on concept record.
Listen to that interview here.

The tech-metal wet dream known as BLOTTED SCIENCE recently announced they were going to rehearse some songs and maybe go on tour. We got really excited! Now, to wet our appetites even more, the band, which features shredmaster Ron Jarzombek (SPASTIC INK), bassist Alex Webster (CANNIBAL CORPSE) and drummer Charlie Zeleny (BEHOLD…THE ARCTOPUS) have released some footage of them rehearsing. My only complaint is the guitars are kind of low, but the footage is still sick! Check out the two videos after the jump… (more…)

This Saturday (tomorrow), is New Jersey's big summer show, InFest which combines the Summer Slaughter tour which features BLACK DAHLIA MURDER, KATAKLYSM, VADER, CRYPTOPSY, THE FACELESS, DESPISED ICON, ABORTED, BORN OF OSIRIS, PSYCROPTIC, and WHITECHAPEL, as well as THE ACACIA STRAIN, ALL SHALL PERISH, EMMURE and our boys in SUICIDE SILENCE. Needless to say its going to be a sick show! We will be there to cover ALL OF IT. We're going to be hanging out all day, hooting live footage and interviewing the bands. If you are coming to the show and see us, make sure to say hi. We will be bringing a bunch of stickers to give out (and who doesn't love stickers!). Full info on the show can be found at infestnj.com. See you in the pit!
UPDATE: We came, we saw, we covered the fuck out of it! We got tons of live footage from every band we mentioned (except for ALL SHALL PERISH who mysteriously dropped off). We should be posting all the live footage very soon and I will post a short review a little later on in the day. Special thanks to Stefan at Avail for helping us out and making everything easy.

The Apparatus Tech Pick
Posted by metalinjection on June 26th, 2008
Every week the editors of The Apparatus webzine will present a new tech album that you should do yourself a favor and grab to have your mind completely blown…
This Week's Pick:
The best technical metal band to come out of Chile is COPROFAGO, by far. Genesis, their first truly great record, is packed full of off-timed, polymetric chugs while effortlessly blending in clear, serene jazz fusion as well. Comparisons to MESHUGGAH are warranted, but think of it like this: COPROFAGO picks up in 2001 where MESHUGGAH left off in 1995. Except, COPROFAGO's tone is quite a bit heavier and filthy-sounding, and they seem to relish playing the jazzy parts. I believe this band could easily go straight-up fusion and still be as melodic, tight, and successful as they are on this album. However, if they were to do that, we would miss tracks like "Chaos" and "Empty Creature". Live recordings of COPROFAGO are rare and sought-after. Luckily, fans have uploaded promo videos featuring studio tracks over rehearsal footage and assorted live material, so it's better than nothing and quite welcome.

Although CAVALERA CONSPIRACY just dropped an album in March, it's been three years since Max Cavalera and SOULFLY released new music with their 2005 album Dark Ages. The SOULFLY tribe can finally celebrate a little bit. Today SOULFLY released "Unleash", the first single from their forthcoming album Conquer (which will be released worldwide on July 29, 2008). You can listen to the song on their website and myspace as free download - and unlike the SLIPKNOT song that Roadrunner released this week, you don't have to give away your personal information to download it! Max continues to satisfy this year with "Unleash", and it seems Conquer may be even heavier than Dark Ages or Inflikted. However, I would say the most interesting changes this time around are the improvements on the drums from Joe Nunez and the experimental guitar flourishes from Marc Rizzo. Considering the technicality of the drumming, there is no reason Nunez shouldn't be able to overcome inevitable and unfair Iggor Cavalera comparisons on this one, and Rizzo creates an experimental metal atmosphere that often feels unfamiliar yet never "proggy". Also, the guest spot from Dave Peters finally gives longtime SEPULTURA fans the Anselmo/Cavalera collaboration they've been dreaming of - sort of. Anyway, it'll be interesting to see what SOULFLY have done on the rest of Conquer.
This one below is totally free, so enjoy, but if you want a higher quality MP3 of the song, you can also check out the digital release on Amazon.
