Looks like less OZZFEST and more Slipknot/Disturbed this summer…
Posted by RobInjection on January 30th, 2008Billboard is reporting that the Rockstar Energy Mayhem tour, your new favorite summer traveling advertisement festival, will be going huge this year. The tour, which is being put together by the masterminds of the Warped Tour, is set to feature the returning SLIPKNOT and DISTURBED as co-headliners, is set to rock 30 amphitheaters this summer. There's also rumors that the tour will feature MASTODON, DRAGONFORCE, SEVENDUST, SUICIDE SILENCE and WALLS OF JERICHO. If this bill materialize, it will be the weirdest bill I have ever seen. Mainstream nu-metal bands, trendy hipster bands and metalcore all in one?!
Additionally, the same article reports that Ozzfest will have a lighter schedule, which makes sense. There were reports in some towns, that there was barely any turn out, and in order for the free-fest to stay profitable, they need big turnouts to entice sponsors. Less supply, more demand. And, I'm sure they'll just focus on the areas with the best turn outs. Good news for major cities (New York, Los Angeles), bad news for the mid-west.

Not to get to wrapped up in genre distinctions, but just because the Williamsburg set has embraced Mastodon, I'm not sure it's fair to refer to them as "Trendy Hipster Metal", do you?
five finger death punch is also playing summer mayhem if ivan regains his voice
Don't get me wrong, I love me some Mastodon. But they are definitely the big trend at the moment, and are definitely hipster metal.
This whole tour is hipster-metal. We need a death metal tour…..if there isnt one already. This is one big pile of mainstream doodoo that i couldnt care less about. Yeehaww.
