FALL OUT BOY cover PANTERA's "Walk"; metalheads over-react
Posted by RobInjection on November 27th, 2007Above is a clip of EVERY TIME I DIE vocalist Keith Buckley joining FALL OUT BOY for a cover of PANTERA's anthem "Walk" and the real story here, is not that they totally didn't play the drum solo, but rather, metalheads completely overreacting to the non-story. Here are various comments left on the clip's Youtube page and on the Blabbermouth post of this video:
Not only is that, well, disrespectful, but what the hell is Keith Buckley doing with Fall Out Boy? And how do that pop-star wannabes of fans even know that song?
News Flash bub: PANTERA is a mainstream band. Granted they are no FALL OUT BOY, but I'm pretty sure more than 3 people have heard of them, and especially have heard Walk which is their "Enter Sandman". And wouldn't covering a band you like be the complete opposite of disrespect?
Wow Kieth just lost some big points. Im not going to watch the video at all, just knowing that stupid goofy bass player is probably on stage smirking and wooing 12 year olds with his over sized fake teeth is killing me. That dude should be tortured cannibal ferox style. I really cannot stand those guys at all, Im even disturbed by my thoughts regarding those dudes. Pure hatred!
Get some sunshine, man!
that i don't even know where to start.
surely this is a harbinger of the end of the world.
no one wearing an emo hoodie should be allowed to play a pantera song.
no one currently dating one of the simpson sisters should be allowed to play a pantera song.
no one who knows what a chi is (and owns one) should be allowed to play a pantera song.
for that matter, no one matching the above criteria should theoretically even know who the fuck pantera WAS….which is the truly bizzarre thing.
how on earth did this abomination occur???? seriously, WTF.
The thing that struck me as odd by this commenter is just how much he knew about Pete Wentz, a dude he hates. You know this kid has all the Tiger Beats with Pete on the cover.
It can't be said enough, it's just fucking blasphemy! I can't believe how many stupid Fall Out Boy fans actually are singing along, a bit scary.
I'm pretty sure those Fall Out Boy fans would also be Pantera fans if they knew the words wouldn't it? Thus making Pantera ::gasp:: main - stream?
And of course, leave it to a Pantera fan to go absolutely too far in critism:
oh, and they have murdered dimebag once more. fucking blasphemers.

Not too happy about it, but c\'mon guys, no need to go that far, especially the dime comment, now THAT is blasphemy… who knows, maybe some of those kids traded in their fallouy boy shirt for a Pantera one? That\'s victory in my book.
yeah too much of the closedmindness here, and we get enough of that from chavs/pikeys as it is, so what if they covered a Pantera song, before Fall Out Boy, did anyone of know Pete "with the big fake teeth" Wentz was in HARDCORE band Arma Angelus, and that boy can scream! So now he's in a band that has been embraced by pretty much everyone from radio plays, and he maybe "sucking on the popmusic cock" at the moment, but he's just getting paid, I'm sure none of you would ever say no to that!? and if you do then you're lying….
i'm a huge metalhead, but far from a purist. I think fall out boy (at least their hits) are quite original compared to most of the emo/pop stuff out right now. their vocal style is somewhat original. yes, their instrumentation isn't terribly exciting, but the synth line in the background of "suga, we're going down" is well done, not to mention the production on their music is professional. I love pantera (all the time), keith buckley (much of the time), and fall out boy (some of the time). metal tends to be more consistent, but pop gets the job done some of the time. exactly
All i gots to say is much love for all three bands. They all are great at what they do and did. Pantera for pumping out bad ass song after song. Keith for sweet shit his done in ETID and the boys from fall out boy for staying true to their roots. Look up their oooold ooooold shit…then maybe you all with stop your bitching. those guys have every right to cover that song. just look at Daryl from glassjaw…he not only can ripe shit up with glassjaw but as a softer side with head automatica. Theres alot of other music out there other then just BALLS TO THE FUCKIN BALLS METAAAAL! I love me some metal but shit, sometimes enoughs enough and you need to throw in sum softer stuff. Why dont metalheads get pissed when there beloved metal bands cover pop songs? They cover a song cuz they are fans of it…there fooooor fall out boys probably have shit loads of metal cds they listen to
The master stroke is getting teenage girls to yell the words to "Walk." When I saw Pantera play this, the crowd sounded about an octave lower.
Oops, my comment didn't post properly!
Well said. It is a shame when fans get too overzealous. I love Pantera, and frankly I haven't had the chance to hear FoB…but from what I understand they are a good band as far as pop goes.
Personally, I'd be flattered that something that was so hardcore was this resonant with this many people that it could be taken so well by FoB's fans. Also, the idea of girls singing this with the band…I love it.
yikes people. Pantera was great, but in my opinion Walk is one of their lesser songs…and god forbid that a non-metal playing musician likes Pantera….
its all just fans clinging to old Pantera material. Hoarding it for themselves like a scarce commodity because we lost Dime and the other three are all washed up now.
haha.
thats prety good
i hate fall out boy and everytime i die but they did that prety well
i actually liked it lol
"gasp"
FALL OUT BOY RUINS EVERYTHING THEY SHOULD HAVE GAVE UP A LLLLLLLLLLLLLLLOOOOOOOOOOOOONNNNNNNNNNNGGGGGGGGGG TIME AGO FU FOB
the overreaction to this event is simple ridiculous. at least the damn weiner kids know Pantera a little bit. maybe they can use it as a gateway drug to other awesome heavy music. nothing wrong with that.
Its not so much that they are playing a Pantera song, its more further pointing out how corperate Fall Out Boy are by tapping into whats popular these days!! It fucks me off as "walk" is fastly becoming the next "Enter Sandman" and all this HYPE seems to have come from dimebag dieing! Which is fucking wrong!! The same thing happened with Jimi Hendrix and Kurt Cobain!!
I never saw anyone doing Pantera covers when dime was alive, now bands like Bullet For My Valentine, Avenged Sevenfold and Fall Out Boy are all doing it, and all these bands are commercial as fuck, with an average crowd age of about 15! Although i think its great that the kids get exposed to Pantera, i think its wrong for these bands to bastardise these tracks in hopes of extra popularity!
Now, if Black Label Society, Megadeth or Anthrax did a Pantera cover it would be a totally different reason, this is because they knew dime, played with him and are of a totally different level of respect than these youngsters looking for a piece of the corperate pie
[...] like with Fall Out Boy covering Pantera, some Pantera fans are not pleased (or intelligent). Here’s what some loyal Cowboys From Hell are [...]
I disagree with what some people are saying above about the other Pantera covers, because A7X's version was amazing [in my opinion].
And it's not as if they are slagging Dime off, as seen here, [www.youtube.com/watch?v=u...] M. Shadows [lead vocals] shouts "I wanna hear you scream this shit for Dime!" and after Synyster Gates [lead guitarist] won his Metal Hammer Young Shredder award he added "RIP Dimebag"; and A7X also wrote a song in memory of him about his murder called Betrayed.
So to the person above, Bear Essentials or whatever, they aren't all just doing it for the publicity. They actually have respect for Dime and were influenced by Pantera.
